Setting Goals For Your Job Search

The job search process can be overwhelming, to say the least. Let’s talk about how you can set your sights on a clear target and set appropriate, attainable goals for your own job search.

It’s incredibly important that we take time to orient ourselves before we head out on any given journey. Focus on a firm understanding of WHO you are, WHAT it is that you want to do, WHERE you want to go, WHEN you want to get there, and HOW you will reach your destination.  

SMART Goals

SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time based. SMART goals have been used by corporations for decades now to help individuals establish a clear and direct goals that will allow them to move forward in pursuit of their destination. Applying these attributes to your job search will allow you to utilize measures and accountability to turn your dreams into reality.

“Studies show that people who write down their goals are 42% more likely to accomplish them. Telling a friend increases that percentage to 78%.”

Whatever your goals may be, it is crucial that you take time to name them. If you need some inspiration to get you started, here are some great SMART goal examples from our own clients:

  • “I confidently choose to obtain a position as a marketing coordinator by December 31, 2019.”
  • “I enthusiastically choose to land a job offer as a Project Manager with a leading healthcare institution in Southern Florida by March 1, 2024.”
  •  “I courageously choose to get a job as Customer Service Manager making $67,000 a year by June 30, 2021.
